CLEVELAND BROWNS MEMES 2013 AWARDS - ANNOUNCER OF THE YEAR

It is Super Bowl week, and lets face it the Browns never are involved.  That is until now.  This Super Bowl Week I will be giving out esteemed honors to certain individuals for their accomplishments during the 2013 season.  All leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, where I will crown the Cleveland Browns Memes player of the year, to the Browns player who best represented the overall team culture of our beloved team.

Our first category is for Announcer of the Year.

ClevelandBrownsMemes.blogspot.com 2013 Award for Announcer of the Year goes to Bernie Kosar

For those that remember way back to the first game of the preseason, you will remember that the Browns never looked better in 2013.  Brandon Weeden was sharp, the offense rolled, and the Rams were almost completely shut down.  However much of the Rams issues offensively seemed to be self inflicted.

Bernie Kosar was doing color commentary for that game.  Bernie is a brilliant color commentator because he is an extremely knowledgeable guy.  He picks out matchups and coverage schemes and lays them out in an almost perfect way, as not to insult your intelligence by dumbing it down, but not making it too confusing to understand what he is saying.

But what else is great about Bernie is his brutal honesty about his player evaluations.  Bernie's scathing review of the Rams' wide receivers was mean, brutal, and awesome to listen to.  Because for once it wasn't Bernie having to rip on our own team's wide receivers, and all the while everything he said was honest and true.

But the icing on the cake was Bernie's constant complaining of actually having to watch Kellen Clemens play quarterback for the Rams.  Bernie even cracked a joke about Jim Donovan's story about Clemens meeting the pope by pretending to pray for forgiveness for even watching him play.

Most Browns fans had a good laugh, but one issue remained.  The NFL Network replays all of the preseason games throughout the week following them being played.  They always use the local telecast of the home team, which in this case was the Browns.  So suddenly Bernie's brand of commentary was being heard nationwide.  And while usually Bernie's criticism was for the Browns, that night was quite different.  People hearing Bernie for the first time thought he was being an incredibly unprofessional one-sided sports announcer.

One such person was Sport Illustrated writer, Peter King (who is also close friends with Rams coach Jeff Fisher).  King began berating Kosar on twitter, and soon Bernie was called to the principal's office and was scolded for his comments.  After week two of the preseason the once brilliant Kosar had his wings clipped.

But Bernie your last great game earned you announcer of the year!  Congratulations.
