CLEVELAND BROWNS MEMES 2013 AWARDS - HIT OF THE YEAR

Next comes the award for the Hit of the Year:

The Cleveland Browns Memes for Hit of the Year goes to T.J. Ward

If you have seen the Pro Bowl the last couple years you will know that it had become some bizarre slow motion version of football that was not very fun to watch.  So this year the format was completely changed.  Strangely enough switching the format to something that allows actual teammates to play on opposite teams made for a harder hitting game.  The best hit of the game was likely T.J. Ward's blast on Josh Gordon, which sent Gordon flipping upside down.

Yep... only in Cleveland.

CLEVELAND BROWNS MEMES 2013 AWARDS - PASS OF THE YEAR

The next Cleveland Browns Memes 2013 Awards is for the Pass of the Year:

The Cleveland Browns Memes award for Pass of the Year goes to Brandon Weeden for his rainbow shovel pass

The scene was a little over four minutes to go in a seven point game versus the Lions.  This would be a moment when a great quarterback straps their offense to their backs and drives down and ties the ballgame with a clutch throw in the endzone.

However we had Brandon Weeden, and his method was quite different.  It was 1st and 10 near midfield and Weeden was flushed from the pocket.  Seeing nobody open down field, he instead threw a desperation shovel pass in the general direction of the blimp.  By the time the ball fluttered back down it landed right in the hands of a Lions linebacker who seemed stunned from what just happened.  Needless to say the game went down as yet another loss for the Weeden led Browns and one of the worst throws in the history of the league.

It went on to be a contributing factor on watching Weeden drop from starter, to third string in a matter of a few weeks.  While fate is cruel and allowed Weeden a second and third chance at winning the job back he made the awkward shovel pass a part of his game to game routine.  During the Green Bay game he nearly threw another shovel pass for an interception, which may have resulted in his instant release.

CLEVELAND BROWNS MEMES 2013 AWARDS - RUN OF THE YEAR

For the next Cleveland Browns Memes Award we are awarding the Run of the Year.

No Cleveland Browns covered more ground on one run than this guy.

The running game was dismal this year.  In hindsight, I think that the team dropped the ball by not considering the guy who dropped his drawers at First Energy Stadium in the preseason versus the Lions.  To be fair he did take a couple hits along the way. But he may not have went down if his underwear wasn't still around his knees.  Here is the footage from YouTube of his personal coaching staff psyching him up for the run.

But c'mon this was the Preseason where the young man probably should have been signed and given a uniform, instead he was arrested and received a lifetime ban from the stadium.

CLEVELAND BROWNS MEMES 2013 AWARDS - ANNOUNCER OF THE YEAR

It is Super Bowl week, and lets face it the Browns never are involved.  That is until now.  This Super Bowl Week I will be giving out esteemed honors to certain individuals for their accomplishments during the 2013 season.  All leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, where I will crown the Cleveland Browns Memes player of the year, to the Browns player who best represented the overall team culture of our beloved team.

Our first category is for Announcer of the Year.

ClevelandBrownsMemes.blogspot.com 2013 Award for Announcer of the Year goes to Bernie Kosar

For those that remember way back to the first game of the preseason, you will remember that the Browns never looked better in 2013.  Brandon Weeden was sharp, the offense rolled, and the Rams were almost completely shut down.  However much of the Rams issues offensively seemed to be self inflicted.

Bernie Kosar was doing color commentary for that game.  Bernie is a brilliant color commentator because he is an extremely knowledgeable guy.  He picks out matchups and coverage schemes and lays them out in an almost perfect way, as not to insult your intelligence by dumbing it down, but not making it too confusing to understand what he is saying.

But what else is great about Bernie is his brutal honesty about his player evaluations.  Bernie's scathing review of the Rams' wide receivers was mean, brutal, and awesome to listen to.  Because for once it wasn't Bernie having to rip on our own team's wide receivers, and all the while everything he said was honest and true.

But the icing on the cake was Bernie's constant complaining of actually having to watch Kellen Clemens play quarterback for the Rams.  Bernie even cracked a joke about Jim Donovan's story about Clemens meeting the pope by pretending to pray for forgiveness for even watching him play.

Most Browns fans had a good laugh, but one issue remained.  The NFL Network replays all of the preseason games throughout the week following them being played.  They always use the local telecast of the home team, which in this case was the Browns.  So suddenly Bernie's brand of commentary was being heard nationwide.  And while usually Bernie's criticism was for the Browns, that night was quite different.  People hearing Bernie for the first time thought he was being an incredibly unprofessional one-sided sports announcer.

One such person was Sport Illustrated writer, Peter King (who is also close friends with Rams coach Jeff Fisher).  King began berating Kosar on twitter, and soon Bernie was called to the principal's office and was scolded for his comments.  After week two of the preseason the once brilliant Kosar had his wings clipped.

But Bernie your last great game earned you announcer of the year!  Congratulations.

SOMEONE WANTED THE JOB!!!

After a agonizing couple weeks of the annual Jimmy Haslam coaching carousel search, we finally have a winner.  The Cleveland Browns coach for at least one year will be former Bills and Jets defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine.  While not everyone in Browns town is thrilled with the final selection, this website will be throwing coach Pettine its support.

He has a very good track record of leading strong defenses.  While the jury is out on what he will become as a head coach, I don't feel that the stooges hired the worst guy they interviewed.  Pettine will also save us from what promised to be a huge debacle with a hiring of Josh McDaniels.  Best of luck Mike Pettine, hopefully you won't win any coach of the year awards from this website, and actually win some football games.

RICHARD SHERMAN IS MORE INTERESTING THAN THE BROWNS

I'm sorry, in about 15 seconds of airtime Richard Sherman put something more interesting on TV than the Cleveland Browns have in 15 years.  Based on his post game interview with Erin Andrews last Sunday, it would appear that Michael Crabtree didn't get a Christmas card from Richard Sherman last month.  On the other hand the interview was so intense that it put every professional wrestler since the Ultimate Warrior to shame.

Over the next few weeks I will be unvailing the 2013 Cleveland Browns Postseason Awards.  These honors will be given out, culminating with the esteemed "Cleveland Browns Memes 2013 Player of the Year," which will be given to the Browns player who best represented the team's esteemed football culture in the past season.

HOW IS THAT COACHING SEARCH GOING?

I hate to be cynical but do the Browns really think that they are going to get Adam Gase to run this team and be able to duplicate the Peyton Manning offense?  Why don't they have the offensive coordinator of the 2nd most potent offense in the NFL.  Oh wait his name is Pat Shurmur and he obviously didn't take his strict "West Coast" philosophy to the Philadelphia Eagles.

IT DOESN'T APPEAR THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT TO COACH THE BROWNS

I'm not sure even Lou Brown would be foolish enough to take the job at this point

The coaching search is continuing.  And with the lack of people seeming to even want to do the job in the first place, I don't think the fanbase is going to like what comes from it.
